What would music sound like that is inspired by the idea of the refugee, the prisoner and the human being who has become an object, as Seferis says in "Last Station"? The lament of Hecuba, who became a slave after the fall of Troy in Euripides' Trojan Women? From the pain of people who have experienced slavery all their lives? Questions such as these have guided a complex investigation that attempts to lead ancient and modern poetry and music into new, uncharted paths, with the aim of creating a unified musical work that deals with timeless and universal themes.
The Jades is a performance that explores the connections and affinities between poetry, ancient drama and music, with a central theme of slavery, uprooting and migration across the centuries. Excerpts from ancient tragedies, lyrics from popular and modern Greek and world poetry, and original texts are brought together in an original musical work composed by Alexandros Drakos Ktistakis. The work will be performed by the Alex Drakos Quartet, with the participation of performers Christos Stergioglou, who directs the performance, and lyric singer Giorgos Iatrou.
