Celebrating 50 years of continuous professional presence in the theatre, Yannis Houvardas translates, adapts and directs Sophocles' Oedipus Tyrannus and Oedipus at Colonus in one performance as a single work. Under the direction of the experienced Greek director, a group of prominent actors and performers, accompanied by live music, tell the thrilling story of Oedipus from the end to the beginning of evil. Blind and advanced in years, Oedipus and his close relatives arrive at a mysterious place dotted with sacred tombs, ancient Colonus, where through divine revelation they learn of the sacred Apocrypha that will give them the answer to why they have lived such a tortured life. During this transition, the characters relive with Oedipus the shocking events of "Tyrannus" and, going through the stages of approaching the divine spirit as listed in "On Colonus", witness the final elevation and ascension of the hero. Yannis Houvardas' aim is to make the two plays, which are very different in concept and style and were written at a great distance from each other, fully recognisable during the performance, in such a way as to convey the sense of a single story, harmoniously and faithfully to the spirit of Sophocles.
